Fly me to the skies

"Fly me to the skies" is a web page designed to help simmers to choose their next flight in any of the existing flight simulators, and also to keep track of their flights.

How to use it

  • Choose the type of airports you want to search on, you can choose as many types as you want
  • Choose a range of distances to find the airports which are within that range from the departure
  • You can specify the range of distances in Kilometers (KM) or Nautical Miles (NM)
  • Click on "Random flight" and it will select a random departure airport, and show you all the destination airports within the distances range. Click on any of them, and it will be selected as the destination and show you the flight details
  • You can choose a specific airport as departure if you want, simply locate it in the map, and click on it. In this case, it will show you only the destinations within the distances range keeping the departure of your choice
  • If you click a second airport, it will select it as the destination airport, and show you the information of this particular flight. Clicking on "Search flight" again will clear the current selection and search again
  • Click on "Clear flight" if you want to empty the current selection
  • On the airports boxes, there's a METAR button where you can retrieve the METAR of the selected airport
  • You can create an account where you can create all your "virtual" aircrafts and keep track of your flights
    • If you choose 'Keep session opened' it will keep it active for up to 15 days without activity
    • If you don't choose 'Keep session opened' it will keep it active for up to 4 hours without activity
    • Once logged you have the 'Account' button where you can logout and change your password
  • You can create virtual aircrafts, just click on the '+' button on the left pannel just below destination airport box
    • For each aircraft, assing it a name, a model, and an initial airport.
    • You can also decide if you want to show the aircraft in the map or not
    • You'll see all your aircrafts in the map with a different (yellow) marker
  • In the aircrafts list, click on the name of any aircraft, and it will show the fligts of that specific aircraft
    • With an active aircraft, select a departure and arrival airports, and click on the '+' button, it will add this flight to the aircraft's flight log
      • You can enter a comment
      • Distance will be calculated automatically, but you can change it
      • Flight time will be calculated automatically, but you can change it
      • You can mark this flight as favourite by clicking the Favourite (Heart) icon
    • With an active aircraft, select the desparture or arrival airports in the flight log and it will show the flight in the map
    • With an active aircraft, click on the flight time and it will edit the flight
    • Click on the "map" icon and it will show all the flights in the maps
  • The filter settings now depend on the aircraft selected
    • When you click on an aircraft it will restore the last filter settings used for that particular aircraft
    • If you change the filter settings with an active aircraft, it will save those settings for that particular aircraft
  • There's a LogBook button, where you can see all your flights.
    • You can see all your aircrafts with some Total values: Total number of flights, Total distance flown, Total time flown.
    • Click on any column to sort aircrafts list by that value
    • Click on one (or more using control key) aircrafts to filter the flights by only those aircrafts
    • The blue box on the right side shows the total numbers for all selected aircrafts
    • Use the filter box to search any flight by any column containing the string
    • Click on any flights column to sort them by that column
    • Click on any row of the table to edit the flight
    • If you click on a row along with control key, it will show that flight on the map
    • Click on the favourites (red heart) icon to show only favourite flights
